From the humblest beginnings, Kit Tatad worked his way up to become an outstanding journalist, author, cabinet minister, international worker, and senator of the Republic.
- Born on October 4, 1939 to a poor family in Catanduanes, he came to Manila at age 15. He worked at mean jobs to finish high school and later to support his studies at the University of Santo Tomas where he began his writing career while studying philosophy and letters. He later took up business economics at what is now the University of Asia and the Pacific; a special course in public enterprises at Harvard Institute for International Development; security planning at Rand Graduate School; and globalization issues at Warwick University.
- Married to the civic leader Fenny Cantero Tatad, by whom he has seven children. Three are married, with seven children of their own.
